In about half the states, there are statutes that allow you to leave a portion of your estate to a trust for the care for your pets after your death. However, almost all these statutes allow a court (any party who wants to challenge the trust) to reduce the amount you leave for these purposes to what IT thinks is reasonable for the care of your pets. Do you think a court or disgruntled heir should be able to do this?
