Hunting question whitetail?

The area I hunt is filled with the same terrain hardwoods with some areas are thicker then others and some have some pines in them. In the woods the only water source are dirty ditches which have collected water and there aren't to many. But there is a cleaner stream that is rather large about 3/4 mile through the woods. I have always hunted the woods where I see tracks that cross dirt trails. Well I have had a idea that maybe I should hunt the water hole. but how often do deer drink and when? I live in Maine if that matters. I hunt the hardwoods because I know early in the morning they are feeding and a moving to bedding areas.
