Help me identify this stick formation.?

One thick stick, maybe an inch in diameter and about 7 or 8 inches long, sticking about 2-3 inches into the ground. Then smaller sticks, the width of your pinky finger, but still about 7 or 8 inches in a criss cross pattern laying around the thick stick. Found this in my yard. Could someone be cursing my home?
